Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13 at the Lake Arthur Methodist Church in Lake Arthur, N.M. for Janice Johnston of Roswell. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 14 at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley, Texas. PJanice Powers Johnston passed from this mortal life at her home on November 10, 2009 in Roswell, New Mexico surrounded by her family. She was born April 22, 1938 in Somerville, Indiana to Hilbert and Syble Powers who predeceased her. She moved to Montana, Nevada and Arizona, settling in Artesia, New Mexico in 1954. At the beginning of her sickness, she moved to Roswell, New Mexico. PShe married the love of her life, Don Johnston, on August 21, 1956 at the First United Methodist Church of Artesia. She was humble and selfless, raising her children and those of many others. Despite being labeled a homemaker by trade, she was much more than that as she stood beside her husband in his many ventures, including but not limited to, bread man, milk man, pastor, bee keeper, tank erector and many more things of which this narrative is too brief to describe. She was a doctor, lawyer and inspiration to her family and many friends. She was an artist and craftsman. She loved to travel in the pursuit of her interest in genealogy. She never complained despite her many travails. PShe is survived by her husband, Don Johnston of the home; daughters Kim Crockett Charlie of Clovis, New Mexico and Barbee Lux Jim of Lakewood, Colorado. Grandchildren Doepp Crockett Kristi and Cutler Crockett Tayni of Artesia, New Mexico, Tiffany Alexander Craig of Denver, Colorado, David Johnston Leann of Nashville, Tennessee, Tony Weant Angel of Littleton, Colorado, Dallas Fleming Shiann of Clovis, New Mexico, Dusty Fleming Andi of Fort Knox, Kentucky and preceded in death by Danielle Cambri Fleming. She was also survived by great-grandchildren: Aliyah, Evan, Dylan, Destani, Breanna, Royal, Keagan, Trevor, Andra, Spencer, Sydney, Hagan, Kenzee, Shaylee, Julian and Cambri. Janice is also survived by brothers Bob Powers Joyce of Hobbs, Printice Powers Darlene of Roswell, Darell Powers Debby of Vidor, Texas. One sister Marcella Marty Lindert Gordon of Scottsdale, Arizona survives her. She is also preceded in death by a brother, William Emory Powers and a sister, Jewel Marie Powers.
