A gathering is scheduled for 2 pm Friday, October 13 at Terpening & Son Mortuary for James Cole Towler of Lake Arthur, New Mexico.
James Cole Towler 66, died on October 1, 2023 unexpectedly at his home in Lake Arthur.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
James "Cole" was born on March 23, 1957 in Artesia to Kenneth Towler and Shirley House. Cole grew up in Atoka with sisters Vicki and Shannon. His mom Shirley met and married Bill Byrd in 1974. In 1974-1976 he married Jeannie together they had one son, Michael. In 1977-2000 Cole married Scherrie Fowler and together they had 3 children, Cody, Dusty, and Deanne.
His survivors include sons, Michael Towler, wife Kathy; Dusty Towler, wife Elexis; daughter, Deanne Towler, significant other Danny; 13 grandchildren, Breckley, Hailey, Noah, Sebastian, Ethan, Jesse, Tatum, Wesley, Jayclynn, Jaixdyx, Jeremiah, Connor, and Declan; 3 great grandchildren; sister Vicki, husband Montey Harper; brothers John Byrd, wife Jonnie; Gene Byrd, wife Sue; numerous nieces and nephews. His lifelong friendships included Roger and Becky Carper; Bill Dominguez; Ken Prince
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Shirley and Bill Byrd, Kenneth Towler, Grandmother Mae House, sister Shannon Chavez, and son Cody Towler.
At a very young he worked on his family's hay farm in Atoka until he began a career in the oilfield. He worked hard for his family to build the life they deserved. On his off time, he enjoyed fishing and loved to hunt with his friends and family. To know Cole was to love him he had a heart like no other. Cole was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle and he was the best Paw Paw. Cole spent a majority of his days in the mountains hunting or on a lake fishing with his kids and grandkids. He is missed so much by so many.
