Graveside services are scheduled for 10 am Thursday, October 7, at Woodbine Cemetery, Artesia, New Mexico for James Steven Evarts of Clovis, New Mexico.
Mr. Evarts, 66, died on October 2, 2021 in Portales, New Mexico.
Darwin Thompson will officiate at the services. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 1-6 pm on Wednesday.
James was born on May 26, 1955 in Artesia; the son of James Raymond Evarts Jr and Rosemary Reidy Evarts. He graduated from Artesia High School in 1973 and knew exactly what he wanted to do - be a locomotive engineer. He applied with the Atchison, Topeka, Santa Fe Railway. He was the youngest engineer on the Santa Fe Railroad at the age of 18. He was an engineer for 42 years and at retirement he was the second oldest engineer.
He married Marilyn Wasson on May 24, 1986 in Artesia. He was an avid railroad enthusiasts , loved to travel, enjoyed college football and Bulldog sports. He was huge fan of the Cardinals baseball, and the St. Louis Blues Hockey.
He was proceeded in death by his brother Michael James Evarts.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Evarts; a son Michael Evarts; a daughter Laura Bakken and husband Brandon; granddaughter Bella Grace Bakken; brothers Richard Scott Evarts and John Craig Evarts.
