Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 10, at First Baptist Church for James Ray Moore, 2301 W. Grand Ave. Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Moore, 82, died Friday, March 7, 2008 at Artesia General Hospital. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery with Veterans Graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Kniffen, Leo Sutton, Gene Clowe, Jim Clowe, Robby Sutton, John Kniffen, and Tommy Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church and Hermosa Drive Baptist Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Moore was born July 9, 1925 in Bagwell, Texas; the son of James Thomas Moore and Gracie Ellen Bryant Moore. On Sept. 21, 1946 he was married to Mary Shoemaker in Colorado City, Texas. He came to Artesia in 1961 from Farmington, N.M. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a maintenance foreman for Haliburton. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Deacon, member of Brotherhood, Ed Lee's Sunday School Class and Bulldog Sam's Travel Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Loyd Moore and Jimmy Don Moore, and a son-in-law David E. Clowe II. Survivors include his wife Mary Moore of the family home; daughters Joan Faye Kniffen and husband Kenneth of Clyde, Texas, Joanne Kaye Clowe of Artesia, Doris Raye Sutton and husband Leo of Monahans, Texas, and Ellen Gaye Moore of Clyde, Texas; brother Kenneth Edward Moore of Odessa, Texas; sisters Helen Crockett of Bridgeport, Texas, and Ann Smith of San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren Shelley Flowers and husband Jeff of Tyler, Texas, Laurie Turner and husband Pete of The Colony, Texas, Mary Kniffen of The Colony, John Kniffen of Abilene, Texas, Gene Clowe and wife Valerie of Aztec, N.M., Jim Clowe of Aztec, Robby Sutton of Okeene, Oklahoma, Renee Dawson of Monahans, and Tommy Moore of Clyde; 18 great-grandchildren.
