James Parrish

November 10, 1924 — January 7, 2013

Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Artesia First Baptist Church for James Leonard Parrish of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Parrish, 88, died Monday, January 7, 2013 at his home.

Pastor Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial of the cremated remains at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be his Mens Sunday School Class.

James was born November 10, 1924 in Pear Valley, Texas the son of James A. Parrish and Flara L. Jones Parrish. He was a longtime Artesia area resident residing in Cottonwood, Hope, and Artesia.

On June 21, 1945 he was married to Dorothy Teel in Roswell, N.M.

James was a Hope High School graduate. He worked many jobs but spent most of his working career with the Artesia Alfalfa Growers Association where he ended up holding the position of manager. He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church, N.R.A., Optimist Club, and the Artesia Historical and Genealogical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Parrish of the family home daughter Betty R. Anglin and husband Bobby of Sweetwater, Texas sons Thomas W. Parrish and wife Patsy of Livingston, Texas, and Glen D. Parrish and wife Vicki of Artesia 9 grandchildren 18 greatgrandchildren brother Harold Parrish and wife Barbara of Artesia sister Peggy J. Weatherford of Collierville, Tennessee.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Childrens Home in Portales, New Mexico or charity of your choice.
