James Murrill

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 am Wednesday, May 31 at Woodbine Cemetery for James (Jim) Stanley Murrill of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Murrill, 91, died on May 21, 2023 in Midland, Texas.

Ty Houghtaling will officiate at the services. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 4 to 6 pm on Tuesday.
Honarary pallbearers will be Lex Klein, Timmy Klein, Johnny Klein, Jeff Klein, Gauge Murrill, JW Loffler, Austin Brown, Joey Barnhart, Stan Mckee.

James was born on February 19, 1932 in Arch, New Mexico; the son of Wilson Richard Murrill and Ethel Dyer Murrill.

On April 15, 1955 he was married to Reba Burns in Carlsbad, New Mexico. They came to Artesia in 1965 from Carlsbad. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2012.

Jim graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1950 and joined the Navy as a Seabee. He served his country for 4 years being honorably discharged in 1954 and returning to Carlsbad where he went to work as an electrician for Duval Potash Co. In 1965 he decided to change careers and bought a dairy and farms with his partner A.A. Klein and moved to Artesia. In 1992 he went to work for L&R Well Service and worked there until 2018 when he finally decided to retire.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Tiffany Murrill, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include sons Greg Murrill and wife Donna of Midland, Texas, and Gary Murrill and wife Andrea of Midland, Texas; grandchildren Tiffany Murrill, Kendra and Joey Barnhart, Kali Taylor, Gauge Murrill, Candace and JW Loffler, Megan and Austin Brown, and Lexi Blair; great-grandchildren Mike Pando, Hadley Pando, Jet Taylor, Drake Taylor, Judd Barnhart, Jack Barnhart, Mason Loffler, Cambry Loffler, Ansley Brown, Trinity Brown, and Colton Brown.
