James Morgan

Memorial services are scheduled at 10am on Friday, June 6, at First Methodist Church for Jimmy Morgan of Artesia.Mr. Morgan, 72, died Monday, June 2.

He was born on March 15, 1942, in Artesia to the late Harold and Bettye Elliott Morgan and is also preceded in death by one brother, Mike Morgan, and one nephew, Brian Gurley.

While he was a great mentor and friend to many, Jimmy is mostly known for being a loving husband, father, and Grampy to his grandchildren. Nothing gave him greater joy than to be surrounded by his wife and family. While fishing was a favored pastime, watching football, especially his Artesia Bulldogs, was his preference. He loved people, never met a stranger, and went out of his way to make others smile with his quick wit. Most people left him better for being in his company. His generous, kind nature endeared him to all. He was a member of the Artesia Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl Hightower Morgan of Artesia his sister Gayla Gurley brotherinlaw Sherrell Gurley of Artesia brothersinlaw Ross Hightower of Chandler, AZ, and Joe Hightower sisterinlaw Karen Hightower, sisterinlaw Diane Morgan of Roswell four children, Jami Purcella of Pleasanton, TX Jimmy Neil Morgan daughterinlaw Kimberly Morgan of Ocean Springs, MS Craig Morgan of San Jose, CA and Trad Morgan of Artesia seven grandchildren, Amanda Purcella Gomez husband Sal Gomez, Bryce Purcella, Dakota Morgan, Alexis Morgan, Chase Morgan, Ryan Morgan and Abriena Morgan and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Pallbearers are Bryce Purcella, Dakota Morgan, Chase Morgan, Ryan Morgan, Sal Gomez, and Bobby Hnulik.Honorary Pallbearer is Gene Scoggin.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund of Artesia PO Box 1492, Artesia, NM 88211 or American Cancer Society.
