James Thurl Moore passed away July 25, 2009 at the University of New Mexico Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Services will be held at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m., July 29, 2009. James was born February 25, 1991 at RAF Upper Heyford Air Force Base, England while his father served in the United States Air Force. James started school at Grand Heights Kindergarten and graduated from Artesia High School in 2009 with honors. James was a recipient of the Chase Foundation scholarship and an academic scholarship to attend New Mexico State University in the Fall to study computer animation. James loved attending church at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ, playing his Wii, fishing and hunting. James starred in the high school productions of Harvey and Employees Must Wash Hands After Murder. James was a Deputy Sheriff with the Eddy County Sheriffs Office. James was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when he was 6 years old. James co-hosted the MDA Telethon for 6 years and acted as the MDA New Mexico Ambassador from 200-2001. James made several appearances on KRQE as a guest meteorologist. James touched the lives of everyone he met including President George Bush, Gov. Sarah Palin, Jerry Lewis, Sen. Pete Domenici. James is survived by his parents, James and Dee Moore, his sister Kathryn Moore, his grandparents, Daniel and Veronica Nez of Albuquerque, and Don and Bobbie Moore of Artesia, his great-grandmother Nela Swinson of Lubbock, Texas, uncles and aunts and cousins.
