James Matthews

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17th, at First Christian Church of Artesia for James Solomon Matthews of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Matthews, 25, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at his home.

Danny Watson will officiate at the services with burial at Lovington Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jake Matthews, Dalas Hnulik, Tommy Echverry, Haise Worthington, Taylor Puckett, Dillon Fuqua, Michael Moore, Cody Richardson, and Brent Patterson.

James was born April 23, 1988 in Artesia, New Mexico the son of Rob Matthews and Michelle Carson Matthews. He was a lifelong Artesia resident.

He was a cowboy, horse trainer, and a champion team roper. He was a member of P.R.C.A. and U.S.T.R.C. He will be greatly missed by his friends and fellow competitors in the horse industry. It is anticipated that a memorial team roping will be held in his honor at a later date.

He was preceded in death by a grandfather Bud Matthews, and a grandmother Irene Carson.

Survivors include his mother Michelle CarsonMatthews of the family home father Rob Matthews of Madisonville, Texas brother Jake Matthews of Midland, Texas grandfather Joel Carson of Artesia and grandmother Iris Matthews of Hobbs, N.M.
