James Haas

James Edward Haas, 58, died on July 24, 2011 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

James was born on December 6, 1952, in LeMars, Iowa. After receiving his undergraduate degree in History and Political Science at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, he continued his education and earned a Juris Doctor at Deadman School of Law, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Specializing in Oil and Gas, he practiced law for thirtythree years first in Longview, Texas, followed by Midland, Texas and ultimately in Artesia, NM. James joined the firm of Losee and Carson in Artesia where he added his name as firm partner in 1987.

James is survived by his wife of twentyeight years, Toni, and his children: Drew, Haydn and Zane, Lauren Haas Moses husband Aaron and granddaughter, Elizabeth, and Rev. Preston Greenwaldt wife, Kristin and grandson, William as well as his father, Donald Haas, his brother, Steve Haas and his motherinlaw, Bettye Carr.

A member of First Baptist Church Artesia, a Boy Scout of Eagle rank, Rotary Club, Quarterback Club, mulitple civic improvement organizations, and every manner of Bulldog endeavor, Jim took avid pleasure in supporting the education and sports participation of his children. For 18 years he coached soccer for both recreational and travel teams. He delighted in hard work and laughter. His sage advice, soft heart and nearphotographic memory will be sorely missed.

Memorials may be sent to an annual college scholarship fund in Jims name for one boy and one girl. The account for receipts is held at Western Bank under Jim Haas Memorial Fund, or you cail deposits to 2005 Runyan Ave W. Services will be held at First Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, followed immediately by a graveside gathering.
