James Evarts

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at St. Anthonys Catholic for James Joe R. Evarts of Artesia.

Mr. Evarts, 94, died Monday, November 24, 2014 at Eastern NM Medical Center in Roswell, New Mexico.

Fr. Francis will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be A.A. Klein, Lex Klein, Harold Huntsman, Dave Boneau, Felipe Guerrero and Don Alam.

There will also be visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary on Tuesday beginning at 12:00 p.m. A rosary will be held at the church Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Joe was born January 26, 1920 in Flat Rock, Illinois the son of James R. Evarts Sr. and Julia Polomcak. He came to Artesia in July of 1925 to drill oil wells. The Evarts family was an old oil family from just outside of Titusville, PA.

On November 11, 1950 he was married to Rosemary Reidy in Elgin, IL. She preceded him in death on 1222005.

He worked in the oilfields for 32 years and 17 years as a Maintenance Supervisor for the city of Artesia. He was a member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church for 89 12 years and was a very proud former Bulldog football player .

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rosemary and son Michael J. Evarts.

Survivors include his sons Steve Evarts and wife Marilyn of Clovis, NM, Richard Evarts of Artesia, and John Evarts and wife Patti of Opelika, AL granddaughter Laura Evarts of Vancouver, WA and grandson Michael Evarts of Clovis, NM.
