Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 2, at Faith Baptist Church for James R. Artrip Sr., 511 N. 26th St., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Artrip, 75, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. John Hines will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. Artrip was born July 28, 1933 in Huntington, W. Virginia; the son of Fred Robert Artrip and Lavada Mae Ferguson Artrip. On Sept. 8, 1952 he was married to Wanda Knowles in Artesia. He was a longtime resident of Artesia. She preceded him in death June 22, 1985. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in commercial equipment maintenance. He was a past member of Artesia Mainstreet, past member of the Elks Lodge, and was a member of the N.R.A. and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Survivors include life companion Terry Buck of Artesia; sons Fred Artrip of Mescalero, N.M., Darrell Artrip of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Jimmy Artrip Jr. of S E Texas; daughters Hiltona Mills of Santa Fe, N.M., and Wanda Mae Greenwood of Lubbock, Texas; step-sons John Buck Jr. of Corydon, Indiana, and Raymond Buck of Artesia; brother Charles Artrip of Huntington; sister Thelma White of Brownwood, Texas; sister-in-law Dorothy Artrip of Artesia; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
