Private family services will be held for James Lindsey Alsup of Roswell, New Mexico, formerly of Artesia.
Mr. Alsup, 93, died September 11, 2020 at his home in Roswell.
Pallbearers will be Greg Norton, Jay Alsup, Jason Robertson, Nate Payne, Corey Stevens, and Steve Bailey.
James was born September 19, 1926 in Walnut Springs TX to James Solomon Alsup and Lottie Beatrice Mounce Alsup. He was married to Alice Deason on October 16, 1948. They moved to Artesia in 1972 from Roswell and then back to Roswell in 2014. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2015.
James was a great man, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His life was full of love, adventure, and happiness. A favorite story is when he tried to enlist in the Army and was denied due to health reasons, just to be drafted during World War II. He served his country and, most importantly, his family. He was a noble lover of Artesia Football and all things-Artesia, as a matter of fact. Many people will remember him from his Little League Baseball days in Artesia and Roswell, where he was a passionate coach, had a true passion for the game, and loved watching his grandkids play whenever he could later in life.
He was down right hilarious, always finding a way to crack a joke or make people laugh. He was sharp, had a green thumb, and always kept busy outside whether it was yard work, tending to his garden, or taking us fishing.
There are so many words to describe James Alsup, but he can be wrapped up in one simple but honest word: wonderful. His memory will not only live within us, but exude from us. When you drink your next root beer, fry an egg, eat a mini snickers bar, open up the newspaper, put on a baseball cap, or (for whatever reason) run into a boxing match on TV, it’ll now put a smile on your face.
Grandpa, we will truly miss you. We love you, deeply. But, we are most of all filled with joy that you are at peace, once again with grandma, and now our Lord and Savior where you belong. You have reunited with your soulmate and we honestly cannot wait to meet you both there.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Joan Holliday and Carolyn Alsup, and by a grandson Scott Klein.
Survivors include his son Larry Alsup and wife Judie of Roswell; daughter Cindy Blake and husband Glen of Roswell; sisters Jean Ragland of Austin, Texas, Lois Dunn of Cleburne, Texas, Nina Chapman of Rio Vista, Texas, and Nelda Bailey and husband Steve of Rio Rancho, N.M.; grandchildren Michelle Lutzke and husband Scott, Krista Norton and husband Greg, Jay Alsup and wife Whitney, Tori Robertson and husband Jason, Ashleigh Payne and husband Nate, and Corey Stevens; great-grandchildren Nick Lutzke, Madison Lutzke, Zane Lutzke, Kyle Norton and wife McCall, Faith Norton, Olivia Norton, Zoe Alsup, Reese Alsup, Bryce Alsup, Tyler Rose Alsup, Cameron Robertson, Carleigh Robertson, Connor Robertson, and Aubrey Payne; great-great-grandchildren Legend Norton and Baby Girl Norton on the way.
