Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, at Terpening Son Chapel for Iva Bernice Shipley, 1116 W. Stevens Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mrs. Shipley, 87, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Landsun Health Service Center in Carlsbad. Terry McKean will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathan Johnston, Steven Janway, Joe Davis, Terri Genzer, Chad Rhoads, and Randy Cawley. Visitation will begin Monday at 2 p.m. till 9 p.m. at Terpening Son Chapel. Mrs. Shipley was born November 4, 1919 in Corona, New Mexico; the daughter of Frank Melton and Mary Cox Melton. On Feb. 22, 1974 she was married to Bill Shipley in Juarez, Mexico. She came to Carlsbad in 1974 and lived her early life in Artesia. She was a housewife and a member of the church of Nazarene in Carlsbad. She also was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Artesia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Jesse Lee Cargill who was killed in World War II; second husband L.T. Beauchamp; brother Arthur Melton, and a sister Edith Genzer. Survivors include her husband Bill Shipley of family home; sons S.L. Cargill of Eden, Texas, and Rick Beauchamp and wife Robin of Carlsbad; daughter Karen Cawley and husband Mike of Carlsbad; brother Charles A. Melton and wife Mary Ann of Georgetown, Texas; sisters Dorothy Box of Artesia, Marjorie Davis of Carlsbad, and Oleta Barnhill and husband Ralph of Hemet, California; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
