Ima Smith

Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 18, at Terpening Son Chapel for Ima E. Smith, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Smith, 73, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Landsun Health Service Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Pastor John Drusedum will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary. Mrs. Smith was born January 2, 1931 in Del Rio, Texas; the daughter of Arthur Virgil Yancy and Adelith Ellen Casey Yancy. On Dec. 17, 1949 she was married to Baylor Smith in Del Rio, Texas. She came to Artesia in Dec. 1957 from Del Rio. She was a Bookkeeper for Crouch Plumbing and member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, past member Women of the Moose, and the Artesia Womens Bowling League. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, a sister and a son-in-law Robert Mellard. Survivors include her husband Baylor Smith of the family home; son Virgil Smith and wife Jan of Roswell, N.M.; daughters Virginia Darnold and husband Paul of Alamogordo, N.M., and Ima Lee Mellard of Artesia; sisters Orel Lee Brown of Houston, Texas, June Smith of Houston, and Mary Soard of Palestine, Texas; grandchildren Brent Smith of Waxahachie, Texas, Tina Garcia and husband Patrick of Rio Rancho, N.M., Brandi Darnold of Ruidoso, N.M., and Meghan Mellard of Artesia; 4 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers foundation.
