Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Woodbine Cemetery for Howard "Lyle" Terpening of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Terpening, 92, passed away on August 26, 2019 at Artesia General Hospital.
Ty Houghtaling will officiate at the services with visitations to be held at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.
Lyle was born February 11, 1927 in Artesia, NM to John H. Terpening and Rita Stanley Terpening. He graduated from Artesia High School in 1947. He served in the Navy from February 15, 1945 through June 29, 1946 as a Ships Service Man Third Class. On March 2, 1954, he married Mary Evelyn Price at the family ranch near Lakewood, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2015.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed being active on the teller committee for many years. In his early career he worked for C.V.E. thereafter ventured into the refining industry for 30+ years working for Malco, Conoco and Navajo. Eventually, retiring at age 62 as an "A" Operator in the TCC Unit. He was a loving husband to his wife of 61 years and father who enjoyed spending time with his three sons in various activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Lynn Terpening, and brothers John and Andy Terpening.
Survivors include his sons Henry Terpening of Artesia, and Roy Terpening and wife Rose of Artesia; daughter-in-law Jan Terpening of Hobbs, N.M.; a grandson Cody Terpening and wife Laurie of Hobbs; and a great-grandson Brady Terpening of Hobbs.
