Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 29, at Terpening Son Chapel for Howard B. Rickey, 400 W. Coal Ave., Hobbs, New Mexico. Mr. Rickey, 85, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs, New Mexico. Rev. Gavin Vaughan will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. No visitation is scheduled. Mr. Rickey was born August 14, 1922 in Portales, New Mexico; the son of Earl Rickey and Lillie Meiner Rickey. On July 1, 1960 he was married to Loretta Rita V. Johnson in Artesia. He came to Artesia in 1952 from Oklahoma. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a field supervisor for Marbob Energy retiring in 1995. He was a member of Hermosa Drive Baptist Church, active in Little League Baseball for 31 years and served as president for 20 years, held every office plus coached teams. He was the Assistant District Administrator for Little League until moving to Hobbs in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Denise in 1975, and brothers Kenneth, Edgar, Walter, Albert, and Ernest. Survivors include his wife Loretta Rita V. Rickey of Hobbs; daughter Phyllis Reams and husband Robert of Hobbs; step-son Wayne Derrick of Artesia; step-daughter Gail Brayton and husband David of Duncanville, Texas; 3 grandchildren Cody and Shelbi Reams of Hobbs, and Chad Brayton of Duncanville; brother Billy Rickey and wife Janie of Texas; sisters Mildred Brown of Oklahoma, and Bertha Stinsman of California; sister-in-law Flo Rickey of Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews.
