Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for Helen E. Mapes Miller, Roswell, New Mexico. Mrs. Miller, 91, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at her home in Roswell. Rev. Archie Echols will officiate at the services. Mrs. Miller was born May 13, 1912 in Iowa City, Iowa; the daughter of C.M. Fountain and Mabel G. Miller Fountain. She came to Roswell in 1937 from Iowa, and then to Artesia in 1940. On May 25, 1940 she was married to Melvin A. Mapes, Jr. in Roswell. He preceded her in death in 1978. On April 4, 2000 she was married to Frank Miller in Roswell. She was a School Teacher for 28 years and member of First United Methodist Church in Roswell, Pres. United Methodist Women for two terms, Eastern N.M. Hall of Fame - Education, Pres. Retired Teachers Assoc. for two terms, Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year, Phi Mu Sorority, Kappa Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Pres. of Story League, Methodist Choir for 50 years, Community Concert Singing Group, Artist of the Year Artesia, Artist of the Month Carlsbad Art Assoc., directed and designed Heritage Mall Artesia and Hermosa P.T.A. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister. Survivors include her husband Frank Miller of the family home; son Mel Mapes and wife Kathy of Clovis, NM; grandsons Michael Mapes of Clovis, Mark Mapes of Lovington, NM, and Matthew Mapes of Lubbock, Texas; step-granddaughter Katy Montoya of Flagstaff, Arizona and Paty Gambordella of New Orleans, Louisiana.
