Hector Carrera

April 9, 1942 — July 5, 2017

A Memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church for Hector Carrera of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Carrera, 75, passed away on July 5, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Hector was born on April 9, 1942 in Falomir, Chihuahua, Mexico; the son of Alberto Carrera and Enriqueta (Asunsolo) Carrera.

He came to Artesia in the late 70's from Mexico. On October 13, 1978 he married to Alicia Contreras in Carlsbad, NM. She preceded him in death on March 7, 1997. He was a construction supervisor and traveled all across the country for work. He had a very strong work ethic and even though he spoke very little English he was the boss. He always said "Hard work doesn't have a language." Hector was a mentor to his children, always giving them love, wisdom and advice. He taught them to read and write, encouraging them in every aspect of their lives, even into their adulthood. Halloween was Hector's favorite holiday, he enjoyed seeing the little ones in their costumes. He loved taking road trips and sightseeing with his family, he was known to take his kids across state lines for day trips. Being with his family was a priority. Hector had a big heart for stray animals and people in need. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, do-it-yourself projects in his tool shed. He will be greatly missed and the memories he made with his family will be forever cherished,

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gabino Kelly, brothers Alfonso Enrique Carrera, Antonio Carrera and Lazaro Carrera.

Survivors include his daughters Danielle Cano of Tucson, AZ and Rhiannon Carrera of Artesia; step-daughters Sylvia Cano of Roswell, NM and Sue Ann Cano of Artesia; son Manuel Kelly of El Paso, TX; step-sons Ervey Cano and Ezequiel Cano both of Artesia; sisters Getrudis Carrera, Juana Carrera and Maria del Socorro Carrera; brothers Alberto Carrera and Jose Guadalupe.
