Graveside services are scheduled at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 7 at the Pinon Cemetery for Gaston Lewis of Pinon, New Mexico. A potluck lunch will follow the graveside services at the Pinon Club House.
Mr. Lewis, 88, died peacefully on September 28, 2023 where he always wanted to be, at his home in Pinon.
David Brunson will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be grandsons Levi Jackson, Kyle Stewart, Cole Jackson, Travis Alcorn, Coulter Alcorn and Cotton Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd Stewart, Alton Munson, Arden Lewis, Terry Lewis, Rodney Webb and Jeff Holder.
Gaston was born on June 7, 1935 in Weed, New Mexico; the son of Albert Thomas Lewis and Sarah Eva Green.
Gaston married Carolyn on May 22, 1955 and they were married for 68 years. Gaston had many occupations, including logging and trapping, but above all was a cowboy and a rancher. His first priority was always his wife and kids and making sure they were taken care of. Even at the end of his life, this was still his top priority. Many people knew him as the government trapper in the Pinon region. He began this career in 1975, and retired after 30 years of service in 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Pat Lewis, sisters Mabel Winters and Lucille Lewis, and a daughter-in-law Samantha Lewis.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn Lewis; a son Trey Lewis; daughters Melissa Stewart, Sarah McNealy, and Terri DeHoyos; a sister Nora Lea Lewis; grandchildren Rian Holder, Levi Jackson, Kyle Stewart, Renee Sallee, Cole Jackson, Travis Alcorn, Coulter Alcorn and Cotton Lewis; also by 11 great-grandchildren.
