Harold Houghtaling

Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 6, at West Main Baptist Church for Harold N. Houghtaling of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Houghtaling, 81, died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Rev. Walt lsaacs and J.T. Ross will officiate at the services with burial at Lake Arthur Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Sunday beginning at 2:00 P.M. Mr. Houghtaling was born July 20, 1924 in Artesia, N.M.; the son of Forrest M. Houghtaling and Emma Vogel Houghtaling. On January 17, 1949 he was married to Nona Belle Prutzman in Artesia. She preceded him in death June 6, 1956. On May 18, 1958 he was married to Joyce Foster in Artesia. She preceded him in death on August 29, 1993. He was a lifelong resident of the Artesia area. He worked as a rancher for 42 years and was also a truck driver for 40 years. He was a member of West Main Baptist Church, and one of the founding members of the Atoka Volunteer Fire Department. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Alene Amos. Survivors include his daughters Val Bledsoe and husband Ross of Ft. Davis, Texas, Joni Smith of Artesia, Janet Grice and husband Robert of Artesia, and Jeanne Houghtaling of Alamogordo, N.M.; sons Sonny Houghtaling and wife Ann of Cottonwood, N.M., and Ronnie Houghtaling and wife Cathy of Atoka, N.M.; sisters Lucille Riley of Artesia, Edith Roberts of St. Vrain, N.M., and Rosabelle Malone of Artesia; brothers J.R. Houghtaling of Lake Roberts, N.M., and William Houghtaling of Artesia; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
