Guadalupe Ramirez

May 27, 1922 — June 14, 2020

With profound love and gratitude, we announce the passing of Guadalupe (Lupe) Ramirez, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She left this world peacefully on June 14, 2020 at her residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico with family by her side. She lived to be 98 years old and shared a long life filled with joy and memories as she touched many lives.

Born in Meoqui Chihuahua, she moved to Artesia, New Mexico where she met and married Salomon Ramirez and together they built a long lasting life there. While raising her family, she was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where she served in numerous roles including member of the prayer group, Guadalupano Choir, Lector, and Communion Minister. Many people in the community were inspired by her strong faith in God and la Virgen de Guadalupe and often sought her prayers of healing and spiritual guidance.

Lupe will be remembered for her gentle and warm spirit which attracted many friends over the years especially her numerous comadres whom she shared happy moments over a cup of coffee at her kitchen table. In addition, Lupe had a talent for cooking where she took pride in sharing her recipes with everyone around.  Some of her special Mexican recipes included pasteles, empanadas, gorditas, tortillas de maiz, etc.  Lupe’s other passions revolved around her Mexican culture and traditions such as the Spanish language, songs, dances, and dichos (quotes) that will continue to influence others. She loved traveling with her family for special occasions such as her annual birthday fiesta where family would reunite to celebrate another year of her life in this world.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents Pedro and Patrocinia Mendoza, siblings Perfecto, Pedro, Jose, Maria, Raquel, and Ramona, and grandson Ernesto Velasco, Jr.  She is survived by her children Mony Gomez, Carlos Mendoza (Maria Luisa), and Martha Graciela Mendoza.  She was a proud grandmother to Dr. Jennifer Gomez-Chavez (Lawrence), Little Joe Gomez, Lucy Velasco (Victor Gutierrez), Esmeralda Velasco (Educardo Arce), Carlos Mendoza (Lourdes), Alejandro Mendoza (Marisol), Fernando Mendoza (Monica), and Juan Carlos Mendoza (Irasema). She is also survived by her numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren including Monique Chavez and Derek Chavez who lovingly cared for her during her final years along with their grandmother Mony Gomez.

A celebration of Lupe’s life will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 with a viewing from 9:00am – 9:30am, Rosary 9:30am -10:00am, and Mass 10:00am -11:00am, and burial following at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Chavez, Derek Chavez, Mark Reid, Ernest Chavez, Jr., Kyle Mulligan, and Brent Patterson, Jr.

We will keep our beloved angel Lupita in our hearts, prayers, and memories forever.  Nunca te olvidaremos madrecita, abuelita (gapita). Mil gracias por la amistad y alegria que le brindaron todos los que la conocieron.
