Guadalupe Hernandez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Guadalupe M. Hernandez, 311 W. Kemp Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Hernandez, 91, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at his home. Father Chris Santangelo SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers. A rosary service is also planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin Wednesday at noon. Mr. Hernandez was born September 3, 1916 in Marfa, Texas; the son of Gonzalo Hernandez and Isabel Morales Hernandez. He came from Texas to Artesia in 1924. In 1933 he was married to Seferina Delgado in Artesia. They renewed their wedding vows in 1996 at Our Lady of Grace. His wife preceded him in death August 2, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, seven sons, two daughters, one great-great-granddaughter, two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law and six grandsons. He was a contractor, retiring in 1986; and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Survivors include daughters Maria Ponce of Artesia, Juana Lunares of Las Cruces, N.M., Guadalupe Valenzuela and husband Catarino of Roswell, N.M., and Jovita Hernandez of Artesia; sons Feliciano D. Hernandez and wife Alicia of Las Cruces, Gonzalo D. Hernandez of Artesia, and Arturo D. Hernandez and wife Corina of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandsons raised as sons Eliaz Alex Hernandez and wife Alma of Artesia, Jose Luis Hinijos Hernandes of San Antonio, Texas and Rafael D. Hernandez of Artesia; sisters Trine Gongoria of Phoenix, Ariz., Rosa Bueno of Hobbs, N.M., and Dora Flores of Arizona; brothers Salvador Hernandez of Hobbs, Alfredo Hernandez of Hobbs, Juan Hernandez of Chicago, Ill., and Elias Hernandez of Bakersfield, Calif. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
