Guadalupe Chavarria

Services are scheduled at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 8, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Guadalupe Lupe Chavarria, 421 E. Quail Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Chavarria, 57, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at her home. Father Virgilio Flores will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rocky Chavarria, Rolando Junior Chavarria, Ralph Chavarria, Mack Catano, Anthony Cortez and Calletano Collie Chavarria. All grandchildren have been designated as honorary pallbearers. A Rosary service is also planned for 6:30 P.M. Friday at Our Lady of Grace. Mrs. Chavarria was born November 21, 1944 in Los Angeles, California; the daughter of Marcelino Cortez and Pilar Acosta Cortez. She came from there to Artesia in 1950. On February 23, 1962 she was married to Rolando P. Chavarria, Sr. in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a homemaker and mother; and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by one son and one brother. Survivors include her husband Rolando of the family home; sons Rocky Chavarria and wife Shama of Cleburne, Texas, Rolando Rolaids Chavarria, Jr. and wife Darlene of Artesia and Ralph Chavarria of Las Cruces, N.M.; daughters Debra C. Avila of Garland, Texas and Rachel Chavarria of Artesia; brothers Jesus Cortez and wife Peggy of Albuquerque, N.M. and Pete Villareal and wife Eva of Roswell, N.M.; a sister Soakie Cortez of Garland, Texas; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
