Gregorio Cortez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 31, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for Gregorio O. Cortez of Lake Arthur, New Mexico. Mr. Cortez, 79, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Casa Maria Nursing Center in Roswell, New Mexico. Fr. Roberto Barrera will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andres Palomares, Valentin Palomares, Santiago Salcido, Amador Porras, Domingo Pinsana, and Daniel Salcido. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Cortez was born January 26, 1930 in Presidio, Texas; the son of Gregorio Cortez and Yldefosa Ornelas Cortez. He came to Artesia area in 2003 from Lovington. He was a farm laborer and was of the catholic denomination. Gregorio was preceded in death by his parents, a son, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers. Survivors include his 8 daughters; 2 sons; brothers Aldolfo Cortez, and Jose Cortez both of Lubbock, Texas; sister Juana Salcido of Lake Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews.
