Gracie Gifford

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at Trinity Temple Assembly of God, for Gracie A. Gifford, Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Gifford, 92, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Heartland Nursing Center in Artesia.

Bobby Argo will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Crouch, Dwane Parrish, Dave Brickey, Josh Wallace, Blaine Wallace, and Tim Baize.

Mrs. Gifford was born February 25, 1918 in Newport, Texas the daughter of John McCarter and Ethel Elizabeth Sims McCarter.

On June 9, 1934 she was married to James Jim Leroy Gifford in Waurika, Oklahoma. She came to Artesia in June 1956 from Bowie, Texas. He preceded her in death November 5, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

She was a nurse at Artesia General Hospital for many years before retiring. She was a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God, and a volunteer at the Senior Mealsite.

Survivors include daughters Gwen Woods of Artesia, and Lois Oliver Colwell of Artesia sisters Jessie Pipkin of Hoover, Alabama, and Eula Mae Webb of Bowie, Texas granddaughters Theresa Baize and husband Tim of Artesia, Cynthia Wallace and husband Blaine of Artesia, and Caleen Terpening of Artesia greatgrandchildren Brian Baize, Whitney Baize, Josh Wallace and Jacqueline Wallace and greatgreatgrandchild Zane Baize.
