Grace Clanton

Services are scheduled for 10 am Wednesday, December 28 at Terpening & Son Mortuary, Artesia, New Mexico, for Grace M. Clanton of Rankin, Texas.

Mrs. Clanton, 99, died on December 20, 2022 in Rankin.

Following the services, burial will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2 to 6 pm on Tuesday.

Grace was born on January 16, 1923; the daughter of M.C. Newsom Sr. and Alice Ford Newsom.
On July 10, 1939 she was married to Murrell Clanton in Bakersfield, California. They came to Artesia in 1952 from Midland, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2007.

Grace worked in the school cafeterias for over 20 years. She loved to sew, quilting and swedish weaving. She enjoyed canning vegetables from the garden. She and Murrell enjoyed traveling all around the country with friends. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Janie Smith, 8 brothers, 3 sisters, and granddaughters Ebony Smith, and Elizabeth Elaine Smith.

Survivors include her son Lyndell Clanton and wife Olevia; grandsons Tracy Clanton, Toby Clanton and Travis Clanton; great-grandchildren Bradley, Amanda, Jacob and Brandon; and by great-great-grandchildren Brantley, Averi Grace, Gunner and Hudson.
