Gonzalo Montoya

Funeral Mass is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Gonzalo S. "Chalo" Montoya of Lake Arthur, N.M.

Mr. Montoya, 81, joined the Lord Monday, May 22, 2017 in Artesia. He left peacefully surrounded by family.

Fr. Frances Lazer will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gabriel Montoya, Chris McNeil, Tootie McNeil, Danny Montoya, Jeremy Montoya, Thomas Baeza, Gonzalo Montoya III, Juan Ramon Valenzuela.Honorary pallbearers are the rest of his children grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Gonzalo was born January 10, 1936 in Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico to Ignacio and Teodora Montoya. On January 17th, 1956 he married Patricia Valenzuela in Presidio, Tx. They shared 60 years of marriage.

He was a farmer, his passion was riding and training horses. He was extremely content being surrounded by his family, grandchildren,great- grandchildren, and friends. He loved to listen to music.

He was proceded in death by his parents Ignacio and Teodora; his beloved wife Patricia; two daughters Natalia and Gloria; brother Delores "Lolo" Montoya; and sister Carolina Ortiz.

He is survived by his 9 children, Mary Pasillas of Roswell, N.M. Lupe Baeza of Lake Arthur, N.M. Juanita Aguilar of Cottonwood, N.M. Rosa and husband Richard McNeil of Silver City, N.M. Gonzalo Montoya Jr. and wife Diana of Hagerman, N.M. Abel Montoya of Lake Arthur, N.M. Javier Montoya of Lake Arthur, N.M. Danny Montoya of Lake Arthur, N.M. Gabriel Montoya and fiance Ashley of Artesia, N.M. ; Brothers Apolonio "Mon" Montoya of Ft. Stockton, TX, Francisco "Frank" Montoya and wife Julia of Ft. Stockton, TX; Sisters Ramona Alvarado and husband Efrin of Presidio, TX, Manuela Valenzuela and husband Ramon of Kermit, TX; 22 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren; close friends Juan Muniz, Rodrigo Quintana, and Ignacio Romero Sr.
