Memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 16 at West Main Baptist Church for Gloria Joan Menefee of Artesia, N.M.
Keith Kilpatrick will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Mrs. Menefee went to be with the Lord, May 13,2018, at the age of 92. She was born April 19, 1926, in Solano, NM to Mark and Mary Norris. She was the seventh child of ten children.
She graduated from Carrizozo High School in 1944. She attended State College, now known as New Mexico State University, where she met and married Glen Turner Menefee on October 9,1949 They farmed in Cottonwood, NM for many years as they raised their boys and were members of the First Methodist Church in Hagerman, NM.
Joan was leader of the Cottonwood Junior Boys 4-H club for 15-years. She hauled many boys from the Cottonwood area so they could play Little League Baseball and a variety of other sports and activities. She enjoyed hauling all the children in the area anytime they needed.
After leaving the farm she worked as a clerk at Ben Franklin, TG&Y, and finally Artesia Cleaners where she retired upon their closing. Retirement didn't slow her down. She stayed busy with her grandchildren and their activities. She also stayed busy caring for loved ones in need, and was famously known for giving her all in helping others.
She was also well known for her homemade donuts which were spread far and wide, and her zany sense of humor.
She is survived by four sons Stanley and wife Rhonda, Milton and wife Camille, and Elton all of Artesia, and Randall and wife Lou Ann of Tyler, Texas; sister Phyllis Moore and husband Gilbert of Monument, CO, Brother Nathan Norris and wife Francine of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Mark, Aaron, Matthew, Lauren, Kali, and Shelby; nine great grandchildren Brandon, Maia, Sam, Allyson, Rylan, Jayden, Jace, James, and Josiah.
She was preceded in death by her husband. Glen; son Dale, her parents, Mark G. and Mary Norris, two brothers, and five sisters including a twin sister Jean Hobbs.
