Glenda Carter, a long-time resident of Artesia, passed away at the age of 69. Born in 1949 in Oakland City Indiana, she was the youngest of five children. Her family moved to Artesia when she was a girl. Glenda graduated from Artesia High School in 1967, and married her partner of almost 40 years, Bud Carter, in 1968.
In addition to owning and operating Carter's Texaco with her husband Bud, Glenda was a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), a profession that brought her tremendous joy. As a COTA she worked with children in the Artesia Public School system, she provided home therapy across Eddy County, and worked in nursing facilities in both Artesia and Carlsbad.
Glenda was a private person who quietly touched many throughout her life and lived with a strength that her children still marvel at. She is remembered as a voracious reader, wonderful cook, and loving mother and grandmother. She is loved and missed by her family: Jesse Carter, Johnny and Erika Carter, Cheryl Carter, her six grandchildren, her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
At Glenda's requested, rather than a memorial service, family and friends are welcome to come to the family home at 2pm on Friday, December 7th to share memories and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at lls.org.
