Services to remember and honor Gladys Gillespie, formerly of Artesia, are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Westside Church of Christ.
Mrs. Gillespie, 95, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Rev. Stuart Graves of First Baptist Church of Longville, Louisiana will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Thomas, Brent Booker, Jon Thomas, Dillon Graves, Wade Crews, and Perry Troublefield. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Troublefield and Bill Gray.
Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Gladys was born February 6, 1920 in Lamesa, Texas; the daughter of Joseph H. Lisenbee and Frankie B.(Low) Lisenbee. She was a longtime Artesia resident.
On December 6, 1936 she was married to Lewis A. Gillespie in O'Donnel, Texas. He preceded her in death July 6, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Glenda Carolyn Booker and her husband Mike; four brothers and three sisters.
Gladys was a loving mother and an owner/operator with her husband of Gillespie's Grocery Store and had established long-lasting roots in Artesia. Their spirit of service carried well into retirement years, as they eagerly served the community as active Meals-on-Wheels volunteers. Gladys and Lewis traveled frequently with the Good Sams's Club of Artesia, where they made friends of a lifetime. In 2013, Gladys followed the Lord in believer's baptism, at Westside Church of Christ, where she worshiped faithfully.
Survivors include her grandchildren Kelly Thomas and husband Steve, Allyson Graves and husband Stuart, and Brent Booker and wife Pamela; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a close friend Sam Lackey.
