Geraldine Banister

February 26, 1922 — May 7, 2010

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at First Baptist Church for Geraldine Elizabeth Banister of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Banister, 88, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Artesia General Hospital.

Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Christopher Banister, Teague Banister, Matthew Staples, Bryan Banister, Chris Kuykendall, Jason Kuykendall, William Miller, and Jennifer Kuykendall.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Monday beginning at 5:00 p.m.


Mrs. Banister was born February 26, 1922 in Brinkman, Oklahoma the daughter of Luther Green Clark and Mary Emily Weatherbee Clark.

On November 6, 1943 she was married to John D. Banister in Mangum, Oklahoma. She came to Artesia in 1945 from Oklahoma. He preceded her in death April 26, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents brothers Elton Earl, Othal Ralph, Oran Stanley, and Gordon Wendell Holmes sisters Bernice Carmine, Bessie Marie, and Mary Lou son Thomas Clark Banister and a grandson Zane Banister.

She was an Elementary School Teacher and also taught at Head Start. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star, and loved to work on crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her daughter MarySue Kuykendall and husband Bill of Artesia sons John Lawrence Banister and wife Barbara of Collins, Mississippi, and Kenneth Dell Banister and wife Judy of Torrington, Wyoming daughterinlaw Nancy Banister of La Luz, N.M. brother Don Kenneth Clark 9 grandchildren Christopher, Teague, and Bryan Banister, Matthew Staples, Chris, Jason, and Jennifer Kuykendall, and Megan Miller 12 greatgrandchildren Madyson, Hadden, Ethan, Emma and Zachry Banister, Bryton and Brenden Staples, Gracen, Hailey, and Justis Kuykendall, and Kirklyn and Breckyn Miller.
