George Zednick

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 am Saturday, January 13 at Woodbine Cemetery for George W. Zednick of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Zednick, 79, died on January 9, 2024 at his home in Artesia.

Cheto Moreno will officiate at the services.

George was born on April 30, 1944 in Wheeling W. Virginia; the son of Joseph Jacob Zednick and Mary Marguerite Wells Zednick.

After graduating from Artesia High School in 1962, he immediately joined the Army Reserves. In 1963, he went into active duty with the United States Army 101st Airborne Division. He was an aircraft mechanic and repairman working mostly on helicopters. He served three tours in Vietnam and also spent time in Germany.

George was married to Barbara Pierce on October 9, 1974 in Artesia. He worked at the AMAX Chemical until 1993 and then was with I&W until his retirement in 2010.

After retirement he enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, traveling the country in their RV, and also walking his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kristie Marie Hester, three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Zednick; sons Jimmy Lee Zednick, and George Scott Zednick and wife Julie; daughters Shirlene Ryan and husband Joe, Sharma Joyce and husband David, and Misti Jackson and husband Keith; also by 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
