George Montes

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for George Alvarez Montes of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Montes, 87, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Fr. Francis Lazer will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ryan Johnson, Armando Perez, Richard Cardenas, Jesus Montes, Clay Montes, and Maximo Carrasco, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Montes, Terry Johnson, Isarel Montes, Scott Ramirez, and Roman Esquibel.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

George was born August 23, 1927 in Presidio, Texas; the son of Jose Montes and Lucas (Alvarez) Montes. He came to Artesia in 1953 from Texas.

On August 14, 1955 he was married to Aramita Perez in Artesia. She preceded him in death July 6, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Manuel, Anatacho, and Jose Montes.

George was a Truck Driver and drove for Artesia Ready Mix for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and the Holy Name.

Survivors include his daughter Lila Lewis of Artesia; son Hector Montes and wife Thelma of Artesia; grandchildren Ryan Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Crystal Montes, Amanda Montes, and Matthew Montes; great-grandchildren Jayvian Ochoa, Brintly Johnson, Zachary Gonzales, Aaliyah Garcia, Aceton Saenz, and Azziah Saenz.
