George Duncan

Services are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, at First Baptist Church for George W. Duncan, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Duncan, 83, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Willard, Steve White, Nathan Smith, Sherrell Gurley, Russell Kirkpatrick, Danny Morris, Nick Johnson, and Bruce Lanier. Honorary pallbearers will be his Coffee buddies from Dairy Queen and JoeBs, and members of the 739th Tank Battalion. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Duncan was born August 3, 1922 in Paris, Texas; the son of George W. Duncan, Sr. and Mary Jenetta Castleberry Duncan. On Feb. 28, 1948 he was married to Robena Johnson in Wellington, Texas. He came to Artesia in 1946 from Wellington. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a welder for Navajo Refinery where he worked for 37 years and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and a grandson Brad Duncan. Survivors include his wife Robena Duncan of the family home; son Robert Duncan and wife Patty of Artesia; daughter Kathy Wadkins and husband Jim of Artesia; grandchildren Ross Duncan and wife Kandice of Artesia, and Michael Wadkins and wife Laura of Artesia; great-grandchildren Hayden and Jarren Wadkins of Artesia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Vision 2000, Lakeview Hospice of Carlsbad, NM, and Artesia Good Samaritan Center.
