Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, at Woodbine Cemetery for George Garland Barnett of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Barnett, 96, went to that great fishing hole in the sky Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
Pastor Gary Smith will officiate at the services.
George was born October 31, 1918 in Cove, Arkansas; the son of Robert E. Barnett and Maye M. (Barton) Barnett. He came to Artesia in 1936 from Lubbock, Texas.
On Dec. 21, 1939 he was married to Gladys M. Cockrum in Carlsbad, N.M. She preceded him in death September 28, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a great-grandchild.
George worked at Bullocks Feed lot, and then farmed for a while before he started to drive truck hauling propane in the late 50's. He was a truck driver until he retired in 1980. After his retirement he spent alot of time fishing the pecos river. There wasn't a catfish that had a chance if George set
his mind to catching him. He was an avid hunter and loved hunting deer and a long time member of the Church of God.
George is survived by his daughters Faye Brown of Hobbs, N.M., and Glenda Ryan of Artesia; son Dewayne Barnett of Artesia; sister Nellie Elsenor of Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
