Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at First Baptist Church for Geneva Lee Isaacs McAfee, Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. McAfee, 95, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Heartland Nursing Center in Artesia.
Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Isaacs, Toby Isaacs, Hunky Wallace, Quentin Barron, Glen Smith and Larry Isaacs. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
Geneva was born December 5, 1918 in Stratford, Oklahoma the daughter of James Warren Isaacs and Mary Dunaway Isaacs.
In 1941 she was married to Wayne McAfee in Oklahoma. She came to Artesia in 1947 from Oklahoma. He preceded her in death 1984.
Geneva was a retired teacher of 37 years. She started teaching in a one room school in Oklahoma and after moving to N.M. taught at Atoka, Central and also the first year of Abo Elementary. She graduated from East Central College in Ada, Oklahoma and was a member of the Artesia Association of Educational Retirees, Delta Kappa Gamma, and NEA. She also played the piano and taught Sunday school. Geneva was a lover of life and people. She especially loved her family, her school children, and her church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 9 brothers and sisters including Jay Isaacs of Carlsbad, and Sterling Isaacs of Roswell.
Survivors at the time of her death include son Mike McAfee and wife Kathie of Chandler, Arizona daughter Mary Lea Barron and husband Ronald of Artesia brother Walt Isaacs and wife Billie of Artesia sisterinlaw Nora Isaacs of Carlsbad, N.M. formerly of Roswell grandson Sid Ingram of Albuquerque, N.M. stepgrandson Quentin Barron of Artesia, and stepgranddaughter Suzanne Barron.
In lieu of flowers you may prefer to send a contribution to First Baptist Church or the Baptist Childrens Home.
