Garret Belanus

July 9, 1926 — January 4, 2012

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Artesia for Garret Matthew Belanus.

Mr. Belanus passed from this life on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn and by children Donald and Margaret Belanus, Garret J. Belanus, Andrea and James Brassard, Lynelle Polye and children by marriage Sandy and Bruce Tevis of Artesia, Karen and Bill Shelton, and Craig Williams. He is also survived by grandchildren Mary and Jason Reitsma, Nicole
Belanus, and Robert, Donald, and Pieter Polye and Tao Yates, Tevis Yates, Tyler and Colton Shelton, and by his greatgrandchildren Bethany and Sharon Reitsma and TJ Yates and Lilian Yates.

Gary was born in Midland Park, NJ on July 9, 1926 and was a graduate of Eastern Academy in Paterson, NJ. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy until medically discharged. He was employed for many years as a purchasing agent in New Jersey and New York City. After moving to New Mexico he started his own businesses, including Prescription Pest Control in Artesia. He was a dedicated churchman, an occasionally amazing bowler, an avid sports fan, and a businessman eager to please his customers.
