G. Mansell

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 5, at Faith Baptist Church for G. Wayne Mansell of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Mansell, 66, died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Casa Maria Nursing Center in Roswell, New Mexico.

Michael Elliott will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Montgomery, Martin Green, Chava Flores, Tim Baize, Joey Ochoa, and James Mansell.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Wayne was born January 5, 1949 in Artesia, New Mexico; the son of Chauncey Mansell and Fanny Jewell (Turner) Mansell. He was born and raised in Artesia until moving to Dallas in 1970. In 1975 he moved back to Artesia and has been here ever since.

On December 23, 1968 he was married to Debbie Wright in Artesia. They were married for over 30 years then got divorced.

Wayne was an avid athlete growing up. He received a football scholarship to the University of New Mexico and then suffered a knee injury. After his recovery from his injury her received another football scholarship to St. Mary's of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kansas. He continued his love of sports into adulthood playing ball and coaching his son's teams through their early years. He loved the Bulldogs and was proud to watch both of his sons play for them. He supported them in any way possible. Wayne was a carpet layer in Dallas from 1970 - 1974. In '74 he opened up his own small Cafe in Mildford, Texas and was a member of the Milford Baptist Church. In 1975 when he returned to Artesia, he continued in the carpet busines before going to work for AMACO in 1981 as a plant operator and then retiring in 1999. He was delighted to spend as much time as he could with his grandchildren and adored each and everyone of them.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bob Mansell.

Survivors include his sons Brian Mansell of Temecula, California, and Jason Mansell and wife Stephanie of Artesia; sister Dean Newsome of Artesia; brother James Mansell of Artesia; grandchildren Austen Wayne Mansell, Styles Wayne Mansell, Braunsen Marie Mansell, Baylor Johnson, Tyler Wayne Mansell, and Caleb Ryan Leger.
