Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Terpening Son Mortuary for Fred Milton Houston. Pastor Rick Sullivan will officiate.
Milt, 84, died in Roswell, NM on July 9, 2014.
Milt was born in Clovis, NM on December 17, 1929 to Fred Cleo Houston and Kathryn Morgan Houston.
He graduated from Clovis High School in 1947.
He served as a Seaman in the US Navy from 1947 1948 and then continued to serve in the US Naval Reserves from 19481955.
On March 19,1949, he married Nancy Kathleen Ashton in Portales, NM. She preceded him in death on November 27,1997.
In 1954 the couple moved from Tucumcari to Artesia. Milt worked for several newspapers throughout the years, in Clovis, NM, Colorado Springs, CO, Tucumcari, NM and the Artesia Daily Press before purchasing Bryan Printers Stationers in 1969.
He attended the Fellowship of Believers Church, Hobbs, NM.
Milt joined Artesia Lions Club on August 27, 1969 and received Life Membership on May 20, 1991. During that time he held numerous positions with the Club from Zone Chairman to President. He also held numerous District Lions Club positions from Region Chairman to District Governor. He was very dedicated to the work of the Lions Club.
Milt was also a 33Degree Scottish Rite Mason and served in many local and State capacities over the years.
Milt loved country music, traveling, his work with Lions Club and Scottish Rite, and he especially enjoyed his grandkids and great grandkids.
His survivors include daughters: Kathy Akins, Becky Neel and Valerie Torrez and husband Robert, all of Artesia. One brother Howard Cleo Houston and wife Ann of Odessa, TX. Grandchildren Edana Yates and husband Otis, Wesley Neel and wife Lisa, Zach Berry and wife Karen, Wade Berry and wife Jessie, all of Artesia. StepGrandchildren Amanda Olguin and husband Justin, Daniel Torrez, of Artesia, and Andres Torrez and wife Alyssa of El Paso, TX. Great grandchildren Chloe, Tessa and Macy Yates, Madison, Kaleb and Kacy Neel, Jaxon Berry, Lucas and Liam Olguin and Christian and Lucia Torrez. He is also survived by long time friend Charlotte McNeil of Lovington, NM.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, his parents, his sister Eudell Gunnels and a soninlaw Joe Akins.
