Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Friday, July 22, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Francisco Frank Muniz Sr. of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Muniz, 71, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 17, 2022.
Father Vijay will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery with Veteran's Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Aron Acosta, David Baca, Jacoby Rand, Jonathan Rand, Xavier Ybarra, John Calderon, Alzado Salazar, and Matthew Martinez. A rosary is also scheduled for 6 pm Thursday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 1 to 4 pm on Thursday.
Frank was born May 10, 1951 in Candelaria, Texas to Pablo Olivas and Refugia Muniz.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. On January 3, 1975 he was married to Kathleen Garcia in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Mr. Muniz served in the U.S. Navy as an Ordinance Man during the Vietnam War. He received an award of appreciation for US NAVY - Vietnam Era 1971-1974. He also was very proud that he got to visit the holy land in Israel.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and loved spending time with his family , and playing dominoes.
Mr. Muniz was preceded in death by a son Frank Muniz Jr., his parents, sisters Olga Olivas, Lupe Salazar, and Kandy Molina, brother Pablo Olivas, niece Abigail Calderon, nephew Sammy Salazar Jr. and parents-in-law Isabel and Eufrasia Garcia.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years Kathy Muniz; daughters Carmen M. Saiz and husband Sal Saiz Jr., Crystal D. Ortigoza and husband Tim Ortigoza; sons Marcus Muniz and wife Asah Muniz, Joshua J. Muniz and partner Stephanie; brothers Luis Olivas and wife Sandra of Belton, Texas, Pete Muniz of Monahans, Texas, Joe Olivas of Artesia, Jesse and Debbie Olivas of Artesia; sisters Mary Gabaldon and husband Alfredo Sr. of Artesia, Sylvia Flores and husband Ramiro Sr. of Artesia, Janie Olivas of Albuquerque; grandchildren Gabriella Acosta and husband Aron, Gavino Saiz and wife Brianna, Ashley Saiz, Devin Aranda, Danielle Aranda, Nahely Muniz, Josiah Muniz, Alexia, Jaylynn, Jocelynn, and Jalyssa Muniz; and great-grandchildren Noah, A'liyana, Ezeriah Acosta, Aiden and Bryson Saiz and 2 great-grandchildren on the way.
