Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 8 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Francisco T. Chavez, 1515 W. Yucca Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Chavez, 96, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Artesia General Hospital. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. A rosary service is also planned for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Grace. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Chavez was born October 10, 1911 in Candelaria, Texas; the son of Teofilo Chavez and Maria Torres Chavez. On Jan. 12, 1934 he was married to Sulema Jasso in Candelaria. They came from there to Artesia in 1956. She preceded him in death Jan. 23, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, three brothers and six sisters. He was an auto mechanic and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Cursillistas, and the church prayer group choir. Survivors include sons Jose Guadalupe Chavez and wife Sue of Carlsbad, N.M., Felix Chavez and wife Beatrice of Artesia, Frank Chavez and wife Margaret of Roswell, N.M., Edmundo Chavez and wife Andrea of Artesia, and Johnny Chavez and wife Debbie of Las Cruces, N.M.; daughters Angela Truby and husband Jim of Toledo, Ohio, Ann Epstein of Macon, Georgia, and Elisa Ochoa of Artesia, brothers Francisco Chavez of Odessa, Texas and Pete Chavez of Balmorhea, Texas; a sister Rosa Chavez of Pecos, Texas; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
