Frances Phipps

Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 16, at Terpening Son Mortuary for Frances Phipps of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Phipps, 83, died Friday, October 15, 2004 in Artesia. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services. No visitation is planned. Mrs. Phipps was born November 13, 1920 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. On 1938 she was married to J. U. Phipps, Jr. in Fayetteville, Ark. He preceded her in death May 15, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and by a daughter and son-in-law Judy and John VanCuren. She came to Artesia from Fayetteville in 1989. She was a Fraternity Housemother for Phi Delta Kappa and member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son Mike Phipps and wife Kathy of Artesia; seven grandchildren including Thad Phipps and wife Alisha of Artesia, Shelley George and husband Steve of Artesia, and Callie Walker and husband Rob of Houston, Texas; and 15 great-grandchildren including Raina and Hannah Wesson and Brianna and Michaela Phipps. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 322 W. Grand Ave., Artesia, NM 88210.
