Florea Whittington

March 1, 1932 — January 19, 2004

Flo Welch Whittington died in Tucson, Arizona on January 19, 2004 of complications from diabetes. She was born on March 1, 1932 in Levelland, Texas. She attended Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas, where she was voted most popular girl. In 1950, she met and married Thomas S. Welch while attending college. They were longtime residents of Artesia, Roswell, and Albuquerque, raising their four children in New Mexico. Flo was known for her awesome personality, wonderful sense of humor, amazingly quick wit, unfailing sense of style, and unflagging determination. She was a survivor who was always ready to share her laughter and her love with those around her. Flo was preceded in death by her first husband, Tommy; by her second husband, Harold Whittington; and by her son, Thomas Stratton Welch. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Ruth Kitto, of Tucson and grandson, Joshua Kitto, of Denver; son Bryan Winston Welch, his wife, Laurie K. Welch, and grandsons Winston Thomas Welch and William Stratton Welch, of Tucson; and daughter Stacy Ann Green and her husband, David S. Green, and grandson Fletcher Grady Green of St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23 at Terpening Son Mortuary, with services scheduled at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Jan. 24 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Artesia. Memorials may be made to the Assurance Home, 1000 E. 18th St., Roswell, NM 88201.
