Services are scheduled for 10 am Wednesday, May 4, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Flavia Lara Martinez of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Martinez died on April 28, 2022 at her home in Artesia.
Father Vijay will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery. A rosary is also scheduled for 9:30 am on Wednesday. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2 to 6 pm on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Kino Aguirre, Mylz Aguirre, Brett Hill, Jamie Molina, Steven Molina, and Jacob Lara.
Flavia was born on November 6, 1946 in Artesia; the daughter of Antonio Cortez Lara and Lillia Lugo.
She was married to Hector Martinez in 1973 in Mexico.
Flavia Martinez moved to Lovington, NM from 1973 - 1977, and later moved back to Artesia, NM and has spent the rest of her life with her spouse in Artesia. She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She devoted all of her life to her family. She was a strong mother that encouraged her children to better themselves in life. Because she was a homemaker, she helped raise her grandchildren so that both of her daughters could continue their education. She provided guidance for her son. She was also the second eldest of her sibilings, therefore, she was always supportive and she loved her brothers and sisters very much. She never met a stranger. She loved to speak with anyone that was willing to listen. One of her past time activities was attending Bingo events and catching up with old friends, relatives, and making new friends. Her mischievous smile and her witty disposition will be missed by all. Life will not be the same without her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Cruz Lara, Johnny Lara, Tony Lara great-grandson; Braxton Hill.
Survivors include her husband Hector Martinez; daughters Nancy Johnson and spouse Alan Johnson; Victoria Aguirre and spouse Inez Aguirre; sons Hector Martinez Jr. and spouse Ada Martinez; and Fermin Burgess; brothers Manuel Lara and Jimmy Lara; sisters Diana Lara and Helen Molina; also by 8 grandchildren Shahayla Knowlton, Brett Hill, Tamara Hill, J'Lynn Aguirre, Kino Aguirre, Mylz Aguirre, Mercedes Goodwin, and Mariah Burgess; and 4 great-grandchildren Thomas Knowlton, Wren Knowlton, Radley Hill, and Elody Hill.
