Fern Barker

Memorial services are scheduled at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at First Christian Church for Fern S. Barker of Hagerman, New Mexico. Mr. Barker, 88, died Friday, May 2, 2008 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. David Grousnick will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary. Mr. Barker was born February 13, 1920 in Lenox, Iowa; the son of Carl Leslie Barker and Effie Cavener Barker. On 1937 he was married to Florence Edna Smith in Conway, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 1989. He married Maxine Brown in 1991. She preceded him in death in June 2006. He came to Artesia in 2007 from Conway, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a school bus driver and member of the V.F.W. in Sharpsburg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters. Survivors include sons Ben Barker of Cortez, Colorado, Ken Barker of Pueblo, Colorado, and Terry Barker of Hagerman, N.M.; sisters Lena Williams of Loveland, Colorado, and Donna Hagenstat of Boulder, Colorado; 8 grandchildren including Vickie Grousnick and husband David of Artesia; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
