Eunice Bisbee

September 19, 1920 — September 20, 2016

Eunice Mildred Bisbee, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 20, 2016 in Abilene, Texas. Terpening and Son Mortuary in Artesia will be in charge of all arrangements. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery on Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 pm, followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, Artesia with Galen Isaacs officiating.

Eunice was born on September 19, 1920 to Harvie D. Austin and Julia McElroy Austin in Clarksville, Texas. The family moved to Oklahoma shortly after Eunice's birth. Eunice attended school in Dustin and Weleetka, Oklahoma, graduating from Weleetka High School in 1938. Eunice helped her father on the farm until WWII began. She then moved to Oklahoma City to work at Douglas Aircraft where she worked first as a machinist before becoming an inspector. She was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters."

Eunice met Lawrence Bisbee through family members. They were married in Okemah, Oklahoma on January 17, 1946 upon his return from World War II. They were married 49 years until his death November 23, 1994. Eunice lived in Artesia, New Mexico from 1946 until 2015 when she relocated to Abilene to be closer to family.

Eunice worked as a bookkeeper for Baker Tire Service for many years and was an active member of First Baptist Church for 68 years.

Eunice was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, her parents, sisters Lorine and Florine Austin and brothers Darrell and Raymond Austin.

She is survived by son Jerry Bisbee (Charlotte) of Blanchard, Okla, daughter Linda Peel (Mike) of Abilene, Texas, sisters Oneta Price, Mary Barber and Faye Bisbee, 5 grandchildren, Kelli Shockley, Brittany Lewis, Jared Peel, Jerron Bisbee and Tracy Tindell, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Covenant Place of Abilene for their wonderful care and love.

Thanks also to Hendrick Hospice of Abilene for care in her final days.
