Ernest Morgan

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31 at Calvary Baptist Church for Ernest Lee Morgan of Artesia, New Mexico. Ernest passed away on Wednesday, August 21 at his home.

Ernest (Ernie) was born October 23, 1945, in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Richard Ernest and Dora (Slape) Morgan. He graduated from Artesia High School and later attended Eastern New Mexico University.

Ernest met his best friend and life-long companion Mary Annette Morgan while attending high school. Ernest and Annette married on April 29, 1966. They celebrated 52 years of marriage last year. She proceeded him in death on October 17, 2018. He missed her every moment of the day since her passing. We are certain that Annette met him at Heaven’s gates with a huge hug and both are happy to be together again.

Ernest worked in the parts department of numerous local car dealerships. He was known as “Red” by many of his customers. Ernest was well-known in the community and his family knew that any public trip would take an extra hour due to the many “chats” with friends along the way.

Ernest enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids during family dinners or gathering for special occasions. He was always reminding his grandkids how proud he was of them and how much he loved them. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and considered the congregation his family. He had an avid love of cars and enjoyed watching wrestling and old westerns on TV. He also loved his three furry canine companions – Zoey, Snickerdoodle, and Harley.

Ernest will be greatly missed by his family - sister Dorothy Morgan, brother-in-law Russell Boyd; son Richard Morgan and wife Kimberly, daughter Tammy Brown and husband Steven. Grandkids Skyler (Christy), Shilo (Crisha), Dalton (Laura), Devin (Magaly), and Trey Morgan; Chris (Katie), Trevor and Emma Brown. Great-grandkids Kira, Sophia, Jase, Mia and Ava Morgan.
