Ernest Harwell, Jr.

Ernest Ray Harwell, Jr. made the journey to eternal life with our Savior Jesus Christ on November 17, 2009. We know he greeted Jesus with a great big hug and a kiss square on the lips. He never met a stranger and had a kind and loving heart. He leaves behind a family he loved whole heartedly and friends so numerous that we will never know how many live he touched. Celebration services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Hermosa Drive Church of Christ. The services will be officiated by Dub Cox and David Brunson with burial at the Last Roundup Cemetery in Dunken, N.M. A potluck dinner will follow at the Dunken Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Fred Funk, Gary McClain, Don Sallee, Steve Jenschke, Roger Whitcamp, Mike Casabonne, Sam Teel, Joel Bell and Richard Belvin. Ernest Ray was born on November 10, 1950 to Ernest Ray and Thelma Lee Harwell in Artesia, N.M. He was a true cowboy. He was raised on his familys ranch in Dunken and went on to be a sheep and cattle rancher his whole life. He was always actively involved in his kids lives and the community through many organizations. He served on the Board of Directors for Penasco Valley Telephone for 15 years, New Mexico Wool growers, 4H Rodeo Board, 4H leader, Dunken Fire Department, Member of the Wool Co-op, Pinon Baptist Church member, and the Hermosa Drive Church of Christ member. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest. He is survived by his son Cody Harwell and wife Becky; daughter Sara Robinson and husband Garrett; a nephew that he considered a son Robert Cottrell and wife Angie of Brady, Texas; grandchildren Kaitlyn Rae Harwell, Clate Jacob Harwell, and Channing Graycie Robinson; mother Thelma Harwell; sister Julie Whitcamp; brother Jimmy Harwell; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Casa Esperanza in Albuquerque or to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Phoenix, Arizona.
