Erica Flores, 48, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at her home.
Fr. Vijaya and Deacon Bobby will officiate the services. A rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Grace, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 9:30am, with mass following at 10:00am, and interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Jose Luevano, Martin Lopez, Nicasio Lopez, Adrian Flores, Aaron Flores, and Johnny Flores.
Erica started her teaching career in 1999 as a 5th/6th grade Bilingual teacher at Edgewood Elementary and spent a few years teaching in Hagerman and Roswell. She started teaching at Artesia Public School in 2003 and was with the school district for 21 years. Erica was passionate about what she did and loved each and every one of her students.
She was a devoted Catholic and attended Our Lady of Grace and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, going to dances, playing solitaire on her iPad, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include husband Benjamin Flores; children Christian, Adrian, and Renee Flores all of Artesia and her beloved dog Chapo Flores. Mother Natividad Pizarro Luevano of Artesia, brothers Nicasio Lopez and wife Juanita, Martin Lopez, Jose Luevano and wife Lena all of Artesia and Israel Luevano of South Carolina and sister Brenda Luevano of Artesia. Erica is also survived by numerous tios, tias, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Erica is preceded in death by her father Joe Aguilar Luevano, father-in-law Johnny Flores, Grandfather Bernardino Pizarro Talamantes; Her tios Refugio Pizarro, Lucio Pizarro, Lucas Pizarro and her tia Andrea Pizarro Nayares.
The family would like to thank Tania Brito, Claudia Rosales, Abilene Lujan Mendez, Susie Macias, Olivia Rodriguez, Audra Gallegos, Erica Valdez, Toni Busch from the Lovington Cancer Center and Latishia Chavarria, Yvonne Branch and Kaila Porras from Enhabit Hospice Care Team, and the staff at Kymera cancer center for the loving care they provided. The family would also like to thank Artesia Public Schools, friends, and family who provided support and comfort during this difficult time.
